Pick an island, or a city

Most of what we wrote is about Hawaii, so the islands get the map. The mainland cities and the trips abroad are on the board below it.

The archive is sorted two ways. Sections tell you what kind of guide you are reading: a beach, a meal, a list of things to do, a plan. Destinations tell you where it is, which is usually the first thing anyone wants to know, so this is the page we use most ourselves.

Five of the boards are Hawaiian islands. Oahu has the most guides, eight, from the Makapuu lighthouse trail to the restaurants near Hanauma Bay. Kauai follows with seven, mostly North Shore beaches and the island’s film locations. Maui has five, the Big Island two and Molokai one, on Papohaku Beach. The All Islands board holds the three pieces that work wherever you land, such as when to hike and when the whales come through.

Mainland USA is the biggest board, with seventeen guides, and the least tidy: Salt Lake City sits next to a small Kansas town, and Myrtle Beach shares space with Lake Tahoe and Long Island. Abroad & Anywhere covers Rio de Janeiro, Southeast Asia on a budget and the packing list. Every guide keeps its original publication date on the boarding pass at the top of the page, so you can see at a glance how old the advice is, and where something has changed since, you will find a dated update in the text.
